Ketchikan - Front Page Photo: Lease For Layup of Columbia At Ward Cove Accomplished; Veltema New Public Works Director - In an October 6th report to the KGB Assembly, Acting Borough Manager Steve Corporon reported that the short term lease with the Alaska Marine Highway System for the winter layup of the Columbia at Ward Cover has been accomplished. Columbia is scheduled to be in layup until early March. According to Corporon's report, negotiations on a short term lease for layup of the Kennicott are nearly complete. Kennicott is scheduled to be in layup from early November until early January.

Corporon also reported the new Director of Public Works, Chris Veltema, started work on October 1. Quoting the report Corporon wrote, "Since there are so many projects and issues underway at this time, I anticipate it will be several weeks before he feels settled in."...

Ketchikan: ROBERTSON BUILDING REMODEL OPEN HOUSE; ADULT EDUCATION OPEN HOUSE ANNOUNCED - The public is invited to an open house for the newly remodeled Robertson Building, located the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan Technical Center, 600 Stedman Street. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 10 from 5:30 to 8:00pm.

The Ketchikan Chapter of the UAS Alumni Association is hosting the Open House. The event will feature hors d'eourves, tours throughout the evening and a brief program at 6:30pm to recognize key people in the remodeling project. The alumni association will also be selling tickets for its upcoming raffle at the end of the month. Partial proceeds of the raffle will benefit the Ketchikan chapter. - Read more...

Alaska: Lt. Governor Highlights Mental Illness Awareness Week - On behalf of Governor Frank Murkowski, Lieutenant Governor Loren Leman dedicated October 5-11, 2003 as Mental Illness Awareness Week.
