Ketchikan, AK - In an October 6th report to the KGB Assembly, Acting Borough Manager Steve Corporon reported that the short term lease with the Alaska Marine Highway System for the winter layup of the Columbia at Ward Cover has been accomplished. Columbia is scheduled to be in layup until early March. According to Corporon's report, negotiations on a short term lease for layup of the Kennicott are nearly complete. Kennicott is scheduled to be in layup from early November until early January.

Corporon also reported the new Director of Public Works, Chris Veltema, started work on October 1. Quoting the report Corporon wrote, "Since there are so many projects and issues underway at this time, I anticipate it will be several weeks before he feels settled in."
