RE: Drug Testing
By Michael Mateer

First I would like to say in defense of myself & my fellow drivers and equipment operators, we are paid well for what we do and we are hard working men and woman building a community. I find it rude and disrespectful that anyone would suggest that based on our rate of pay that we are are a bunch of drug users. I have lived in this town proudly for 12 years and have been involved in every Davis Bacon job since March 02. I HAVE HELD A CLASS A CDL FOR 30 YEARS accident free.

I would love to see the results of this witch hunt. How many positives? I would bet slim to none. I am a Secon employee. We are all part of a random pool and are tested when we return to work after post accident on and on. The DOT mandates testing in case you missed that Mr. Klenschmidt and it's not something new.

My coworkers most own homes, boats, motor bikes, and we enjoy a good life for our labors. We raise our kids and we are MORE THAN PROUD OF WHAT WE DO.

I do however question the legal right of the City of Ketchikan to require this additional testing. The only result will be a higher bid, not a higher crew OR maybe we are being confused with those guys in the entertainment industry.

Thank You,

Michael Mateer
