We can agree on something...
by Ted Wright

January 28, 2005

I'm not pushing the whole non-profit thing as much as Mr. Jones seems to think. I merely pointed out the fact that governments do fund non-profit projects/programs that compete with for-profits. In some cases, it may make sense to do so. I wouldn't say that it always makes sense. I wouldn't say that it never makes sense. And I admitted in my first letter that I don't know enough about Ketchikan to have an opinion about whether it makes sense there. But given the personalized and one-sided slant of Mr. Jones' discourse, especially the whole Mussolini thing, I'm not inclined to seriously consider his viewpoints from here on out. So I'll follow along and see what others have to say about it.

By the way, I agree that one of the problems with federal and other governmental support for non-profits is that they are less regulated than are for-profits. So there may be a greater potential for abuse and corruption when projects are funded through non-profits.

See, we can agree on something. Keep smiling Mr. Jones.
