Ketchikan, Alaska - The 18 foot "Four Clan Totem" at the Ketchikan Correctional Center majestically reflects a golden light Thursday evening. The totem was carved by prisoners who participated in a carving class taught by Ernie Smeltzer.

The "Four Clan Totem" pays tribute and recognizes the three native nations of Southeast Alaska - the Tlinglit, Haida, and Tshimshian. The clans represented on the totem are Eagle, Wolf, Killer Whale, and Raven.

The pole was placed at the Ketchikan Correctional Center June 1, 1990.
