Hello!  My name is Nicole Anderson and I’ve called Ketchikan home for practically my entire life.  So while I can’t claim “born and raised” – I can certainly claim to have been raised by this little island community and it is where I choose to raise my family.

I attended elementary school at the old Valley Park Elementary.  I survived both the 7th grade camping trip (sunny and bright) and the 8th grade survival trip (raining cats and dogs – well mostly cats but that’s a story for another time!) at Schoenbar Middle School.  I am a proud graduate of Kayhi – GO KINGS!

I went from being a “King” to a “Vandal” at the University of Idaho where I earned my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education in December 2002. However, I have spent the last 16 years at Davies Barry Insurance taking care of our community’s insurance needs.

My husband Jared and I are raising our three kiddos – aged 13, 11, and 8 – in this amazing community.  I have served on the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet Board of Directors in the past and I am currently a member of the North Tongass Fire & EMS Association.  You may have seen me waiting outside my daughter’s ballet/jazz class, cheering on a little league baseball game rain or shine (more often in the rain!), at the swimming pool over the many years of swim lessons for all three of the kids, maybe even running a Cub Scout den meeting, or even tossing candy from behind the ambulance in the annual 4th of July Parade. And while I have not had the opportunity to serve our community in a more formal capacity while raising three busy kids – our family has been committed to serving our community for many years.  As you can see - I am a mother first and foremost.

My children are the biggest reasons that I am running for a 1-year seat on the Ketchikan School Board. I strongly believe that a quality education is essential and that our children deserve the very best.  One of my goals as a school board member is to have open, concise, and clear communication.  I see being a school board member as an opportunity to be a voice for the parents and children of our community. I have an open mind and I am willing to listen as we work and collaborate together for the betterment of our schools and the educational opportunities for the students of Ketchikan.  Our children are the future of our community and I would like to be a part of ensuring that it is a bright one.

I would gratefully appreciate your support and vote on October 6th.  No matter who you vote for - please be sure to get out there and VOTE!

Thank you.
