I Jai Mahtani am running for the 3 year city council seat . I am running as we need change and transparency from stats co as post covid we will face many challenges including protecting our economy.

I have a business degree and a minor in finance management from the ornellas Diocese.

I have been in the tourist business since 1986 and in Ketchikan for 25 years year round. I am an elected member of the Ketchikan visitors bureau.

The two critical challenges the city of Ketchikan and the city council will have to deal with are:

The ports and docks and the Rfp that is floating out there we cannot give away or lease our port to anyone from outside or within this is the inheritance of the future generations of Ketchikan kids and residents objectively something has to be done so we don’t loose the 3 core cruise lines that call down town Ketchikan. Covid has given us a window of at least 2 years we can enhance berth 3 and berth one with help from the cruise lines as they have done in Juneau by giving them some incentives and maintaining control of the port and allowing south east stevedores to manage and do the scheduling as they are already doing.

The economy post covid come this year we have to find the money to keep the city relevant keep every one employed bolster and come up with maybe even a cottage industry to start something all year round that will take time we have to be creative this budget as we don’t have the tax dollars that kept us going in previous years.

These challenges I am upto with my experience in business.

Thanking you,
Jai Mahtani
