Dear Ketchikan,

Thank you for your time and consideration in the upcoming election.

My name is Amanda Mitchell. I am a mom of four wonderful children and the wife to one of the greatest men I know. I am very blessed to have such a great family and to be married to my best friend. I am a college graduate and have chosen to invest my talents in raising up the next future generation: my children. In other words, I am a stay-at-home mom. I research for a hobby and love reading. I am that person that buys textbooks even though I am not in school. I am passionate and I tend to work fast. I am creative and think outside the box. I take initiative and am about educating others on the issues around us so that they can make informed decisions.

I believe in our community and that we have a fantastic opportunity to be the difference we want to see in the world around us. Whether a simple kind gesture or helping neighbors in need, we live in that community where we shouldn’t have to depend on middlemen or the government to provide for the needs around us. We are so resourceful. To put things in perspective, when my daughter had her bike stolen a week ago, the community reached out and helped her find her bike quickly. Not many communities can boast of such generosity, caring or involvement.

Even with this, many of you are unhappy of where our community is financially and are not sure how to make a change to get our community back on track. There is no need to be discouraged as a big part of the problem is realizing there is one. There is wisdom in knowing that if we keep repeating the same mistakes and doing the same thing, our situation will never improve. Now is the time to come together and start brainstorming on how to make a transformation. I would like to help lead our town in investigating the issues that do matter to you, by asking those hard questions that you want answers to and by seeking accountability for where your money is going.

It is a very heavy responsibility spending another person's money or putting a person into debt without their explicit consent. Because of this, I believe in smaller government and individual freedom. I believe in the responsibility that comes with that freedom.

Elect me, on October 7th, and I will do my best to come up with more solutions than just throwing money at our problems. I will uphold my part of the job as a city council member to monitor the appointed positions and not to just follow the directive of those we are supposed to keep in check. When there is something you come to me about, even if I do not have the answer for you, I will try to point you in the right direction. I will listen to you and if I disagree, I won’t just sweep the issue under the rug, call you a conspiracy theorist, or use thousands of dollars to hire someone to fight against the citizens of our town. I will not compromise my principles, but I will listen to the logic of your argument. I am open to changing my opinion if you show me the wisdom of your idea.

Vote for me and let me work with you.

Sincerely,

Amanda Mitchell
