Candidate Statement:

Student learning is my highest career goal.  I've spent the past twenty years working toward developing programs and processes that help students of all ages learn.  Schools provide the atmosphere for learning and therefore must be responsive to the needs of the community.  In order to reach excellence in schools, I believe in educational accountability and responsive innovation.  

Background:

Born and raised in Southern Southeast Alaska.  Attended school (K-12) in Metlakatla, Kodiak, Ketchikan, Yakutat, Juneau, and Craig.  Graduated from Metlakatla High School.  Attended the University of Alaska Southeast, earned B.Ed. and first M.Ed. from UAS. Earned degrees both traditionally and through distance/online.  

Has three children ages 21, 19 and 17.  Two have learning disabilities that needed the support of special education services.  Two are currently in college and one is in their final year of high school.  

Founded a business in Ketchikan that offers educational consulting as well as a tutoring center focusing on learning challenges in reading.  

Currently serves as the SSEATEC Director.  SSEATEC is a post-secondary vocational center serving the Southearn Southeast Alaska Region.

Alaska Type B Administrative Certification 2004-2014

UAS Bachelor's, Education 1994
UAA Master's, Educational Leadership 2004
UAS Master's, Educational Technology 2001
UAA Superintendent's Certificate 2007

Taught in Southern Southeast Alaska from 1994 - 2009, was public school administrator from 2002 - 2010.
