Candidate statement:
When I look at my statement of interest three years ago my goals have not changed much

  • DIVERSIFY OUR ECONOMY
  • IMPROVE GOVERNMENT COOPERATION
  • THE BEST SCHOOLS POSSIBLE FOR OUR KIDS

I believe I am one of the better listeners that you might elect.  I try to understand other's point of view and yet always keep my eye on the prize.  In my mind the prize is building a community that has a healthy economy and a community that believes in taking care of everyone in our community: rich and poor, business and residential, old and young.  At the same time it is essential that we do our best to be fiscally responsible and not be wasteful of scarce public dollars.

Some things seem to never change.  Below are ideas from my last campaign that I do not think need any editing, I think they still ring true. These were goals given to me by the public when I walked around the community and asked for input.  These are all goals we can work toward.

  • Control costs of Government
  • Continue to reduce the dropout rate in the High School
  • Support the shipyard expansion project
  • Build the state ferries here
  • Support value-added  wood products manufacturing
  • Build a drive-down dock for fishermen
  • Process fish into more valuable products
  • build a mariculture hatchery to Ketchikan
  • Expand Ketchikan as a Regional transportation hub
  • Don't forget the independent traveller
  • Make Ketchikan a "second home" destination
  • Make borough lands available for development
  • Revisit the Saxman Ferry Terminal
  • Develop more Hydroelectric power
  • Use our UAS campus to our best advantage
  • Train local people for the shipyard jobs
  • Maintain our Hospital as the best in the region
  • Utilize Prince Rupert's shipping advantages
  • Support our strong arts community
  • Help fishermen build a gear storage area
  • Support housing for the elderly
  • Support KIC's housing projects
  • Put Borough property on the tax roles

WE CAN'T DO IT ALL, BUT WE CAN CHOOSE  THE BEST IDEAS  AND WORK TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE THEM

WHAT ARE YOUR IDEAS?
