I am Jason Harris, and I'm running for reelection to Ketchikan City Council.

I have served as a City Councilman for the past three years. During that time, I have been a community leader, serving with innovation and integrity to promote public safety, a strong economy, and fiscal responsibility.

I have a record of fighting for the increased safety of our citizens. During my term, I voted for pay raises for our firefighters and paramedics in order to attract and hold the best-trained emergency responders. I voted to add traffic lights to congested intersections, and I pushed for the addition of a school resource officer to the Ketchikan Police Department. In addition, I represented Ketchikan at the Pandemic Influenza Summit, using my professional training as an emergency nurse to promote awareness and local preparedness in the event that an epidemic illness should strike our isolated city.

I have a record of fighting for a strong local economy. I voted in favor of increasing the size of the Ketchikan harbor docks to accommodate additional cruise ships, which are a life-line of our local economy by bringing in millions of dollars in revenue each year to local businesses. I strongly support the construction of the hydroelectric intertie connecting Swan and Tyee lakes and completion of the Alaska Ship and Drydock, both of which will create more local jobs and bring more money into our community. I will continue to support programs which will grow our local economy, provide more jobs, and bring bigger paychecks to the citizens of our community.

I strongly support fiscal responsibility. I support a balanced City budget and will fight against any proposals that waste taxpayer money and seek to spend money the City doesn't have.

I not a politician; I am one of you. I work in Ketchikan as a registered nurse and as a local manager with an Alaskan-based company. My wife is a special education teacher in our local public schools system. Ketchikan is our home. This is where we will raise our family, with you as our neighbors.

I understand the challenges of living and prospering in Ketchikan. Together we can continue to increase community safety, strengthen our economy, and be financially responsible. I urge you to continue to allow me the honor and responsibility of representing our interests as a Ketchikan City Councilman.

Please vote to Reelect Jason Harris to Ketchikan City Council.
