      Charter Commission Response

      Wednesday
      March 31, 2004

We live at 3683 South Tongass
Hwy and are responding to your requests for input on combining
      the two governments.

We have voted against consolidation in the past and some of our
      fears are:

We do not want to be part of the city which has tighter zoning
laws, building codes etc. We would like to keep the rural atmosphere
out here, with a bit more freedom than in the city.

There was a push on a while back to create a new zone - smaller
lot sizes. We are afraid this would cause tract housing springing
up in the outside areas, causing ever more traffic on the highway
      along with increased vandalism.

We also do not want to be forced to hook up to or pay for water,
and any other service that we don't want or need, although we
are willing to pay for the services used by all (such as library
      and recreation).

      Thank you for listening,
      Astrid Crocker, Floyd Crocker
