(SitNews) Juneau, Alaska - Southeast Radiation Oncology Center, a freestanding radiation oncology facility in Juneau, announced recently that patients who need local housing during cancer treatments will now have access to stay in a private residence in the Juneau area.

"Patients who travel to Juneau for radiation treatments are often here for several weeks," says Eugene Huang, MD, Medical Director at SROC. "We are grateful that many local hotels have offered discounts to our patients for long-term stays, but even with the discount those bills can still be too much of a burden for many patients. Now we'll have another option."

The center has made arrangements for patients in need to stay in a new private residence near the cancer center. The house is fully furnished and features two separate patient suites, each with a mini-kitchen and private living area. The home also features a full kitchen in a large common space. The suites will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to patients of the cancer center. The patient and one guest will be able to stay for each week of the patient's treatment.

"We are grateful to the homeowners for making this possible," says Huang. "We've hoped that we could find an option like this since the day we opened our center two years ago. I can't think of a better way to celebrate our second anniversary and to thank the community for their support of the center."
