(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - Bob McClory, a Ketchikan High School counselor for the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District, has been named the 2011 Alaska School Counselor of the Year. McClory was chosen for his exceptional leadership skills, work ethic, and enthusiasm for the profession.

“Yes, Bob counsels students, fixes schedules, writes recommendations, coordinates testing and accesses records, but he also developed the Alaska Junior Miss program for the state, has helped develop the community Wellness Coalition focusing on drugs and alcohol awareness, and created the application for the district to win the state and national honors for its Advanced Placement program,” said KGBSD's Director of Curriculum Linda Hardin.

Hardin said, “There appears to be no limits to his leadership, tenacity, and pleasant nature and guidance skills. Bob is an educational entrepreneur. He sees things that need to be created or developed for students and staffs long before his colleagues recognize the need.”
