Ketchikan, Alaska - The 7th annual Sam Pitcher Memorial Concert, "An Evening of Jazz, Rock, and Blues," will be on Tuesday, December 8 at 7 pm at the Kayhi auditorium. Performing will be the Kayhi Jazz Band and the McPherson's jazz clubs: Discovery, Soundwaves, and Windjammers. The bands include a wide range of ages, soloists and improvisation. The Kayhi Jazz Band's set includes a couple of holiday numbers.

Soundwaves features Gillian Fazakerly as trumpet soloist on "Fallingwater." Stan Aegerter will be the featured bass trombone soloist on "Makin' Whoopee" with the Windjammers. Adult soloists with the Windjammers include Dale Curtis, Rob Holston and Dave Kiffer. Admission is by donation to the Scholarship Fund.

The Sam Pitcher Music Scholarship Fund was started following Sam's death in 2003 at age 16 from Myocarditis. Sam's passion was music. He played with all four of the bands participating in this concert. Scholarships are for Ketchikan students in grades 7 - 12 to attend summer music programs. Two $500 scholarships were first awarded in 2004. 24 scholarships have now been awarded.

Applications for 2010 scholarships are now available and due on January 1, 2010. The Sam Pitcher Memorial Scholarship Fund is a fiscally sponsored project of the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Association.
