Ketchikan, Alaska -- Jos Govaars owns the Crow's Nest Internet Lounge and operates it year-round for tourists and locals. In addition to the free monthly gaming events called Lan-Parties that appeal to the younger crowd, classes are taught including Accounting, Web Design, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Photo retouching using Adobe Photoshop software.

Govaars also rents out his large computer-filled room for birthday parties and other special events. As many as 16 guests can play games against each other. The Crow's Nest Internet Lounge has plenty of space for special events.

The Internet Lounge is also a great place to go to sell your items on eBay. Bring in your items, and Govaars' team will photograph and list them. When they are sold, he packages and ships them to the buyer and you receive your payment from Govaars.

The accounting class at the Crow's Nest Internet Lounge allows you to select your own computer station on which you can learn how to simplify your financial accounting tasks. Long time Ketchikan resident MJ Cadle, fully conversant in both bookkeeping and accounting, will instruct you via the large screen, which matches your station's screen, on how to efficiently keep track of your records.

There are many advantages to using the Crow's Nest Internet Lounge computers for accounting classes. You will be making the same transactions on your screen as you see on the larger screen and you will be able to get your questions answered right on the spot. If you prefer, you can also bring your own laptop to the classes.

These fast-paced 3-hour classes take place in the specially equipped room in the Masonic Temple building located just south of the tunnel on the corner of Front and Grant Streets. Small business financial accounting classes are generally scheduled from 6-9 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays. If happen to miss the Monday class, at the following class on Wednesday, there will be enough review and overlap for you to catch up.

The charge per class runs from $45 to $50, depending on whether each session is 3 or 4 hours long. If you register and pay ahead, you will get a discount, paying $80 for a 2-night class. Laptop users will pay the same prices. Classes will start again in January.

When the town's businesses partner with the Internet Lounge, employees have the opportunity to learn various programs and skills . Though there is an up-front charge, when viewed long run, these classes should help businesses avoid costly mistakes.

So from small business financial accounting to gaming, this Crow's Nest Internet Lounge site offers Ketchikan residents of all ages both instruction and fun.
