Senator Stedman Announces Staff For 2005 Session
Former Aide to Representative Bill Williams Joins Stedman Staff

Ketchikan, Alaska - Senator Bert Stedman (R-Sitka) announced Friday his staff for the 2005 legislative session. On January 5th, new hires Tim Barry and Andrea Keikkala will be joining existing Stedman aide Miles Baker in Juneau.

Ketchikan resident Tim Barry is moving to the Senate from the House, where he spent the past two years working for Representative Bill Williams (R-Saxman). Williams is retiring at the end of this year.

"We're very lucky to have Tim Barry", remarked Sen Stedman. "He knows the issues, is well respected in Juneau and brings a wealth of experience to the job. He's done a good job for Ketchikan and will be an asset for the entire Senate district."

Barry said, "I was honored to be asked to join Senator Stedman's legislative staff. I have enjoyed serving the people of Ketchikan and House District 1 for the past two years and look forward to continuing that work for all our constituents in District A."

Barry, joining Stedman's staff as a Legislative Aide, was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and has been a resident of Ketchikan since 1989. He has worked as a legal assistant, a commercial fisherman and a journalist. Prior to joining Representative Bill Williams' staff in 2003, Tim spent 3 years as General Manager of KRBD Radio in Ketchikan. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce, and as President of the Valley Park Elementary School PTA. Barry holds a BA in international relations from Stanford University.

Andrea Keikkala joins Senator Stedman's staff as an Administrative Aide. She recently completed her Masters in Religious Studies at Gonzaga University. Keikkala was raised in Juneau, Alaska, and studied at the University of Alaska Southeast before earning her BA in Political Science from Gonzaga in 2003. She has worked as a customer service representative for Alaska Coastal Airlines and as a tutor at Career Path Services. Andrea is a 1999 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School.

Stedman's Legislative Aide Miles Baker moved to Juneau, Alaska in 1969. After graduating from West High School in Anchorage, he spent several years working outside Alaska before returning to join Senator Stedman's staff in 2003. Most recently, he worked as a business development consultant in the media and communications industry in Los Angeles. He has been Director of Strategic Initiatives for NBC Entertainment, National Sales Director for Bertelsmann Music Group and a Client Partner at technology consulting firm iXL Enterprises. Miles is a former US Marine Captain and holds a BS in Ocean Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and an MBA from UCLA's Anderson School of Business.

Senator Stedman was elected to a new four year term November 2nd, 2004. This session Senator Stedman will serve on the Finance Committee, Resources Committee and continue to serve on the Senate Community & Regional Affairs Committee and the Alaska Information Infrastructure Policy Taskforce.

Senate District A includes the Southeast communities of Ketchikan, Sitka, Wrangell, Petersburg, Pelican, Elfin Cove, Port Alexander, Saxman, Meyers Chuck, Thorne Bay, Coffman Cove and Hollis.
