Exam Results Released by AK DOE

About half of test takers on the Fall 2003 High School Graduation Qualifying Exam passed the reading test. Of the students who took the fall test, most were juniors and seniors, although a few second semester sophomores also did. Of the juniors and seniors who took the test, about half passed the reading test; about 60% passed the writing test, and about 40% passed the math test.

For reading the breakdown went like this: Grade 10; of 262 tested, 100 scored proficient, 162 scored not proficient. Grade 11; of 2,735 tested, 1,364 scored proficient, 1,372 scored not proficient; Grade 12; of 1,353 tested, 698 scored proficient, 655 scored not proficient.

In writing, Grade 10; of 190 tested, 76 scored proficient, 114 scored not proficient. Grade 11; of 1,738 tested, 993 scored proficient, 745 scored not proficient; Grade 12; of 801 tested, 469 scored proficient, 332 scored not proficient.

In math, Grade 10; of 310 tested, 91 scored proficient, 219 scored not proficient. Grade 11; of 2,663 tested, 1,023 scored proficient, 1,640 scored not proficient; Grade 12; of 1,466 tested, 581 scored proficient, 885 scored not proficient.
