Tongass Advisory Committee meets in Ketchikan

(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - The ninth, and possibly final, meeting of the Tongass Advisory Committee (TAC) is Dec. 1-3, 2015, at the Best Western Plus Landing Hotel, Sunny Point Ball Room, 3434 Tongass Avenue, Ketchikan, Alaska.

TAC members advise and give recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture through the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service. The membership represents a broad and diverse range of viewpoints and expertise, geographically diverse communities in and outside of Alaska, and people with a demonstrated commitment to working on collaborative solutions.

Meeting Objectives

  • Review Proposed Tongass Land and Resource Management Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement
  • Decide whether or not to amend the package of draft recommendations that was approved in May 2015
  • Finalize TAC input regarding the Implementation and Monitoring Council

Meeting Times

  • Tuesday, December 1, 8:30am – 5:00pm
  • Wednesday, December 2, 8:30am – 5:00pm
  • Thursday, December 3, 8:30am – 3:30pm

The Committee encourages members of the public to provide input to the process through oral and/or written comment. Every TAC meeting includes a public comment period. The agenda will include time for people to make oral statements of three minutes or less. Time is allotted for oral statements on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. Individuals wishing to make an oral statement should register at the meeting.

Box 309, Petersburg, Alaska 99833; by email to jasonanderson@fs.fed.us, or via facsimile to 907-772-5895. All comments, including names and addresses when provided, are made available to the committee, and will be placed in the record of committee proceedings.

If you are interested in listening in on committee deliberations, but unable to attend the meeting in person, a teleconference line will be available. The meeting will also be recorded, and audio files will be available for download within one week after the meeting.
