Ortiz as an “independent” candidate??

By Steve Ortiz

I am writing to the residents of District 36 regarding one of your political candidates for Alaska state house. This candidate is my brother, Dan Ortiz. Over the past 30 years I have had many, many, discussions with Dan regarding political topics and in all cases Dan has demonstrated to me that he is a true liberal. During my recent visit to Ketchikan over the July 4th (2014) weekend, Dan told me that he voted for Barack Obama twice. In addition, Dan voted for John Kerry, Al Gore, and Bill Clinton. Because of Dan’s past comments and actions, I have great concerns regarding Dan’s abilities to strengthen District 36 as a state representative.

Dan has never run a business, made a payroll, nor has he earned his living outside of public education so I question his experience and “independent” filing status. US K-12 public education is now ranked anywhere from 29th to 36th in the world for developed countries. I submit that most voters understand the critical importance of education. The results of US public education are in question as US government education is not accountable for its lack of results because parents do not have the freedom to use their hard earned tax money for school choice, whether private or public.

I believe in American exceptionalism and the original foundations of our republic. Free enterprise, capitalism, private ownership, and limited government have enabled great success for our nation and for citizens whom desire to work and improve their future. In addition, a strong America requires citizens who understand the great threats to our country, our liberty, and a belief that no government entity will dictate their personal success and livelihood. Alaskans/Americans do not need more taxation, more regulation, more debt, Obamacare, onerous government, and politicians who believe that government is the cornerstone of American strength and individual success. When Alaskans go to vote on November 4, I urge everyone to be accurately informed regarding their candidates.

Sincerely,

Steve Ortiz
