Letter to the Editor

We’ve just celebrated Veterans Day where we honored men and women who fought to preserve freedom and the sovereignty of the United States.  I am so thankful for what they do and have done.

It has come to my attention that our US Senators are considering passage of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and that both of our Alaska US Senators support the ratifying of this dangerous treaty.  This treaty essentially threatens the sovereignty of the United States, one of the things that our Veterans fought hard for.  This treaty would give the United Nations authority over US citizens.  It would give the UN the right to make laws that would supersede US laws.

Believe me when I say that protecting the rights of persons with disabilities is a good thing!!  I am not debating this.  We as a nation have many laws in place already to do just that.  This UN treaty would not do better than what our country already has in place.  What is so disturbing and concerning is that this treaty truly threatens the sovereignty of our nation by giving authority to another governing body, specifically the United Nations, to rule over us.  This is not acceptable.

I am asking my fellow Americans to contact your US Senators to oppose the ratification of this dangerous treaty.

For more information about this treaty, please see www.parentalrights.org

Thank you!!
