Ketchikan, Alaska - The Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is hosting two certification workshops and one question and answer session in Ketchikan for the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program.

DOT&PF promotes opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged individuals to participate in federally funded highway and aviation projects through the DBE program.

“I will be available to take questions about the DBE program, and our Certification Supervisor, Linda Babb, will be conducting a certification workshop,” said Jon Dunham, Civil Rights office manager.

The event is open to the public and there is no charge to attend.

Ketchikan, November 16, 2010
First Certification session: 9:00a.m.- 10:00a.m.
Q&A with Civil Rights Office Manager: 10:15a.m.-11:00a.m.
Second Certification session: 1:00p.m.-2:30p.m.

In addition to ensuring that DBE’s can compete fairly for federally funded transportation-related projects, the DBE Program checks that contractors comply with DBE laws and requirements.

The program also ensures that only eligible firms participate as DBEs and will offer assistance to DBE firms competing outside the DBE Program.

DBE applicants must meet specific criteria to participate in the program.
