Property tax exemption forms due November 31st

Ketchikan, Alaska - Senior Citizen and Disabled Veteran 2008 property tax exemption application forms were scheduled to be mailed November 16th. Qualified applicants include senior citizens who turn 65 on or before December 31, 2007; widows or widowers age 60 - 64 of previously qualified applicants; and veterans with a documented service-related disability of at least 50%.

The living unit eligible for exemption must be occupied as the principal residence as of January 1, 2008. The qualifying applicant must have eligibility for Permanent Fund Dividend. Qualifying properties are eligible for exemption of up to $150,000 of assessed value.

Completed and signed forms should be mailed to the main Borough office at 344 Front Street or returned to the Assessment Department at 1111 Stedman Street. Any eligible person not receiving a form may fill one out at either of the above locations. For timely processing, the Department would like to have eligible persons return their completed forms by November 31st.
