Airport lot parking fee

I feel the need to comment on the Boroughs ill-conceived plan to charge for parking at the airport long-term lot. I see it as yet another example of government charging a fee but providing no better service.

I question whether people are really using the long-term lot to car pool or catch the Borough Bus. Do they have facts to back this up or is it just supposition?

I do agree that there may be some abandon vehicles parked in the lot. The City has a similar problem with abandon vehicles on its streets. Perhaps the City and Borough could work together to solve this problem.

Because of my job, I know that a vehicle parked in the airport long-term lot is more likely to be stolen, vandalized, or have a theft occur from it, than being parked anyplace else on the island. Don't believe me; ask any police officer. There is at least one prominent City Official who could testify to this fact. Because of the crime that surrounds the airport long-term lot, I will not park my vehicle there.

If the Borough wants to start charging for parking at the airport lot, how about giving us something in return. Pave the lot. Fence the lot. Put in a surveillance system and a manned tollbooth.

I see a bevy of other problems with their idea as proposed, but I'll let it go at this for now
