Jackson Street Closure
By Diana Amundson

I would like to clarify why Jackson Street is closed each year. In October of 1998 I called the local police department asking if they would block off Jackson street because of all the children. I was told that a petition would need to be signed by my neighbors approving this closure. I then went door to door getting the needed signatures and was very pleased that everyone felt as I did that the safety of the children should be first. I submitted the signed petition to the police department and they have done as the neighborhood residents have asked by closing the street for a few hours.

There have been times when I have not made it home before the street is blocked off. I parked my car and walked home, then when the street was opened up again returned for my car.

I have also kept a copy of the signatures in case you have forgotten whether or not you signed the petition. Thirty-three people signed the petition. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.
