SAVING TIME MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH
by John Fraley

With our ever so rushed lifestyles we are always looking to save time.  The new bypass round the downtown has made it possible to save some time.  But as I see it we have caused a rather dangerous situation where the new bypass ends into a residential area and mainly into Jefferson Street.  This intersection of Third and Jefferson is dangerous because the traffic coming off the bypass can't see the traffic coming up or down Jefferson unless they partially pull out into the street.  Something needs to be done before we have a serious accident or someone gets killed.  We have to keep in mind that Jefferson is a very busy street with quite a few of our community buildings located up in that area.  (Ketchikan High School, Mike Smithers Pool, University of Alaska)  I don't know what could be done but the City of Ketchikan's engineers should be able to come up with a solution that would help make this dangerous intersection safer.
