The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan announced that the Ketchikan Bridge Club 1975-2000 Scholarship is now open and accepting applications. The club ceased operations in 2000 and dedicated their club's fund to supporting education in Ketchikan. The Spring 2004 award of $500 will be the first award for the endowment.

The scholarship will be awarded to one Ketchikan resident each year. Qualified applicants for this scholarship will demonstrate motivation, academic and employment potential in the academic area the student is pursuing; be either a degree or non-degree seeking student; be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.0 grade point average; and be a full-time or part-time student. Preference will be given to students pursuing their degree at the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan campus.

Preference will also be given to students who have completed a semester of college level work and can demonstrate hard work and motivation toward higher education. The grade point average, by itself, will not be the key determinate in awarding the scholarship. Demonstration of financial need is also important.

Applications are available at UAS Ketchikan main campus as well as on the web at Applications are due to the campus by 5:00pm Monday, December 15.

The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan provides a wide variety of educational courses and programs to Ketchikan and the surrounding communities throughout the year.
