Firewood Warning

By Cheryl Henley

I have driven by a place with large rounds of yellow cedar that had a sign for sale. I called the number, and ordered a cord of firewood, split and delivered for $250.00 cash. I was so happy to get it, and then ordered 2 more cords.

He delivered 3 truck loads, even with the truck-bed. Then, a very knowledgeable man; said you don't even have 1 1/2 cords here.

I called the man back, and he said, "You ordered truck loads." I told him I had ordered 3 cords of firewood. I had paid him $750.00 in cash.

I talked to the State Troopers and they said it was a civil matter; file small claims report.

This man has cheated several other woman - Kathy B. to name one of them.

My recommendation is to not buy any fire wood from him. A warning to anyone who thinks he is honest; he is not. His family is from Ketchikan and so is he. This is a small town, and I hope no one else has the same experience.

WARNING. I hope no one else has this kind of experience.

About: I have lived in Ketchikan for over 49 years. Taught school here 28 years as a Special Ed. and Resource Teacher. Married and widowed. I know what a cord of firewood is supposed to measure and look like since I have used firewood for many years. My friends, also, know what a cord of firewood looks like, and measures.

Editor's Note:

A cord of wood measures exactly four feet high by four feet wide by eight feet long (4 ft. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.)
