Don't be buffaloed!

Letter to the Editor:

Alaskans, don't be buffaloed! Every day the opposition comes up with a different attack ad, a misleading poll, a misquote. They send their people to our events to record us, take copious notes and watch our every move. When I first announced my run for governor in 2009, they sent an investigator to Valdez to go through all my actions as mayor in the 70's. Parnell has spent more time making public records requests of my involvement with local government when most Alaskans would prefer he properly respond to the ones that have been presented to him on important issues.

We just don't run our campaign this way. A large Parnell/Sullivan sign in our neighborhood was repeatedly knocked down. I stopped several times to set it upright. It has since been relocated. You won't see hateful videos, attack websites and nasty mailers from us with distorted faces of our opponents and lie after lie about their records. If you haven't already, you will be seeing them from our opponents. We've had a sneak preview and they are putting out some pretty lowball, deceptive stuff.

We want Alaskans to be proud of the campaign we run. When it's over, Byron and I will still have to look in the mirror and know we ran the race with dignity and with honor and respect.

My career and personal labors have been all about fighting to develop Alaska's resources on Alaska's terms and to make sure our local governments get treated fairly by the State and the industry.

So, Alaskans, brace yourselves. The venom is pouring out in volumes now and it will continue to spew for the next two weeks. I do ask my supporters to continue to take the high road, don't get down in the gutter, don't steal or knock down signs. Byron and I are trying to change the face of politics in Alaska to unify, not polarize Alaskans. So let's stick together through this barrage of ugliness and cross that finish line on November 4th victoriously and honorably. Always, Alaska First!
