AMHS Releases Summer 2014 Schedule
October 14, 2013
“Our goal each year is to release the summer schedule as early as possible,” said AMHS General Manager Captain John Falvey. “By doing so, Alaskans will have more time to plan their travel and visitors traveling to Alaska during the busy summer months may book their travel well in advance.”
Release of the 2014 summer schedule was dependent upon the important public comment period held in August and September. The comment period is an opportunity for communities and individuals to review and comment on the proposed schedule, and to make AMHS aware of significant community events.
For the second consecutive year AMHS revenues totaled record highs of more than $53 million. With no fare increases, the revenue was generated by increased ridership, which included over 114,000 vehicles transported. The revenue generated represents a 30.7% recovery of the system’s total operating cost.
Travelers are encouraged to make reservations in advance either online at FerryAlaska.com, by calling 1-800-642-0066, or visiting ferry terminal staff throughout the system. Making advance reservations is the best way to guarantee space for passengers and vehicles, and it allows the system to operate more efficiently. Fare information is available online or from reservations agents.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities oversees 254 airports, 11 ferries serving 35 communities, 5,619 miles of highway and 720 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of the department is to “Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
