Dear Friend,
I would greatly appreciate your write in vote on October 6th
for the Ketchikan Gateway School Board.
As you know, I am relatively new to Ketchikan. However, I have
always been extremely committed to my community. Since
arriving in Ketchikan, I have become actively involved in many
area groups such as Chamber, WISH, First City Players, and Rotary,
as well as working within our schools as a volunteer. With two
children in our schools, the School Board is a natural fit for
me. In addition, I have extensive experience managing and owning
businesses.
Many have asked: What is your agenda?
I will tell you this, I have no agenda other than ensuring that
ALL of our students and youth are educated in the best manner
that suits their future goals. Whether it be college, trade,
or another aspiration--we need to encourage our youth to realize
their goals through graduation. I also believe that each of our
children should be educated to be a good citizen in order to
contribute to the good of our community. With the challenges
that we face in our community, it is essential that we be mhoutcooper@gmailDeb,proactive
in combating those issues that bombard our youth outside of school.
Therefore, it is also my goal to increase parent participation
within our schools, as well as engaging local business support
of our youth in the schools.
In the past few weeks, I have taken the time to visit and be
in contact with all of the area Schools, their Principals, Teachers,
and Parents. I plan on continuing that if elected.
There is no better information than from the "front lines".
Communication is essential if we are to improve our schools and
safeguard our youth against the daily challenges that they face
in order to prepare them for the future.
