YES to Prop #1
By Mary Gregg

Wednesday

I've lived in Ketchikan all my life. My parents took me to South Point Higgins Beach for picnics, fires, and sunsets. I took my children there and I hope they will be able to take their children there. Every year the schools use Pt Higgins Beach for educational field trips.

I am fortunate to live near this beach and walk there with my dog nearly every day. I never cease to be impressed with the beauty of this spot. This is a beautiful beach and is easy to access . A rare combination on our island.

I do not expect or even want our borough to construct amenities for this beach. I prefer to see it remain in its natural state. In years past I have picked up garbage and paid for its removal and am willing to continue doing this. Having a port a potty in the summer and a bear proof garbage can would save the volunteers from having to pick up as much trash but isn t necessary.

In the past Ketchikan Gateway Borough has spent public money for purposes that did not benefit our whole community. Proposition #1 can direct the Borough Assembly to spend money to benefit everyone. The voters of Ketchikan have an opportunity to be remembered as ones with foresight and consideration of all current and future residents of this borough.

Please vote YES on Proposition #1 on October 7th.

Sincerely,

Mary Gregg
