Juneau, Alaska - The International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots, United Inland Group (MMP-UIG), members of the AFL-CIO, has endorsed Senator Lisa Murkowski in the race for U.S. Senate. Among the reasons for the endorsement are Senator Murkowski's supports for the Alaska Marine Highway System, ANWR and increased money to improve port security.

"Senator Murkowski has a long and demonstrable record of support for many of the issues important to our members," Captain Steven Demeroutis, MMP United Inland Group Vice President said of the announcement. "During her years serving in Juneau and the United States Senate, Lisa Murkowski has proven her capabilities as a state and national legislator. She represented the Port of Anchorage in her house District and the entire State of Alaska in the U.S. Senate, and she has represented them well," Demeroutis added. "Senator Murkowski was instrumental in winning tens of millions of dollars for the Alaska Marine Highway System in Congress and is a strong advocate for expanding our resource jobs."

The International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots, United Inland Group has many members in Alaska coastal communities. With it's members living throughout inland and coastal states of the U.S., and in countries around the world, the MMP-UIG represents Licensed Deck Officers and other marine personnel on U.S.-flag commercial vessels sailing in international trade; the inland waterways and Great Lakes of the United States; the Panama Canal and Caribbean, as well as crews sailing civilian-crewed military vessels of the United States.
