A Constitutional Tool whose time has come

Have you ever tackled a maintenance job around your house, only to go to your toolbox and find that the tool you need is not there? So, you end up using a wrench to try and drive a nail into a stud?

Our nation’s founders created a governing document, the Constitution, which provides tools to be used to aid in maintaining our Republic. A significant majority of citizens agree that our federal government is in need of some maintenance. And our duly elected legislative and executive branches are reluctant to use the tools provided to them in the Constitution.

“We the people” have also been provided with maintenance tools in the Constitution; these include our individual vote, and the state's use of the ninth and tenth amendments. And we have one other tool, one which has never before been used, in Article V - a tool which empowers “we the people” to encourage our state legislatures to apply for “a convention for proposing amendments”. Such a convention could produce amendments which our federal officials will never produce left to themselves, such as term limits, fiscal responsibility, and clarifying language to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. It’s time for “we the people” to use the right tool for the job.

Please join with me and the Convention of States Project at www.conventionofstates.com.
