Senator Begich Cares

By Harold B. Sager

In June, 2013, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My cancer doctor wrote a prescription for a portable wheelchair to use during my 48 days of radiation treatments. A detached hamstring didn't help any trying to walk down the long hallway. When I presented the prescription to a local supplier that I normally use, a lady said that Medicare would not accept it because there wasn't enough "verbage" - a word that confused me...

When I got home, I looked up Senator Mark Begich's office number here in Anchorage. I have never met the Senator or talked to him in person. I explained what my problem was and what was said to me. The gentleman said that he would look into this. A couple of hours later, the supplier called wanting my delivery address. Since it was late, I said that we could pick it up in the morning. They replied that it would be delivered that night.

I firmly believe that the worker in Senator Mark Begich's office made this happen (or maybe it was the Senator himself). By the way, this is not an Ad for voting. It is just a little story of how caring our Senator and Staff are. Thank you Providence Cancer Center Doctors and Staff for caring, and most of all, my primary care Doctor Charles Aarons for early detection.

Sincerely,

Harold Sager,
Now a Prostate Cancer Survivor
