Sitnews,
Dear Editor

Never doubt the power of the press!! After not hearing within a reasonable amount of time to a requested response from Representative Don Young on the subject of defunding ObamaCare, a letter dated 9/16/03 was sent to Representative Young in the format of an email with a copy of same submitted to your fine publication for public consumption reflecting the frustration of being ignored. The following letter was received via email within hours on 9/16/13. I submit that having the subject presented to your publication was the emphasis to Representative Young's response. Please draw your own indidvual conclusion to the content.

I for one am disappointed in Representative Young's continued line of finding his litany of healthcare laden benefits. What I take away is his concession that Obama Care will be implemented with a promise of improvements. How does one improve any governmental agency or program? With implementation unabated, thousands of IRS agents will be hired, many will be well armed and in SWAT uniforms, Doctors will be asking, no demanding about your sex life. Death panels will exist and determine the level of care, Access to your personal fiscal holdings will be made. The list goes on.

I have lost all trust of the Federal Government.

Dear Mr. Johnson,

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2682, the Defund Obamacare Act of 2013. I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with me.

On July 11, 2013, Rep Tom Graves (R-GA) introduced H.R. 2682, the Defund Obamacare Act of 2013. This legislation would prohibit Federal agencies from accessing any Federal funding to implement provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or as it is more commonly known, Obamacare. By defunding Obamacare, H.R. 2682 will at the very least delay its implementation. I completely stand behind and support this legislation.

Although H.R. 2682 will not repeal Obamacare in its entirety, it will help alleviate some of the pressure that Americans will face in the upcoming months when the law is fully implemented. According to a 2013 Rasmussen poll, 53% of likely U.S. voters have an unfavorable opinion of the healthcare law. I believe we in Congress can and will work towards better ways to reform health care by expanding access and lowering costs. However, I feel strongly that the PPACA was not the appropriate way to reform health care. In support of this longstanding belief, I have joined a majority of my House colleagues in voting nearly 36 times to repeal, defund, or dismantle Obamacare.

H.R. 2682 has been referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee where it awaits further action. As always, I will keep your thoughts in mind should this bill come to the House floor for a vote. Please know that I will continue to do everything in my power to make sure that Obamacare is defunded, but I will also continue to work with my colleagues in Congress on healthcare reform legislation that would truly benefit Americans through better access, lower costs, and more flexibility and portability.

Once again, thank you for expressing your views on this issue. If you haven't already, I would encourage you to sign up for my e-newsletter at http://donyoung.house.gov/IMA/issue_subscribe.htm and my YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=RepDonYoung. Doing so will allow me to provide you with updates on this and other important issues. If I can be of any assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

DON YOUNG
Congressman for All Alaska
