(SitNews) Sitka, Alaska – A new “Best Practice” addictions treatment program will be opening in Sitka on October 1st that will be serving both Native and non-Native individuals in Southeast Alaska. This substance abuse treatment service will be offered at the Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOT) level of care by the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) within the Division of Behavioral Health (DBH)

SEARHC will have the capacity to offer more individuals the addictions services needed who cannot afford the cost or the time away from home that other residential services require.

The new outpatient program is being built upon the Matrix model of care; an internationally renowned treatment approach that has repeatedly proven successful in restoring the lives of thousands of individuals and their families around the globe. This Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOT) program is licensed and recognized by the State of Alaska to provide a full array chemical dependency services for both self referred applicants as well as those mandated by various state and local entities.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOT) services represent the highest level of care available without being residential. This equates to a minimum of 9 hours per week of treatment participation.

The term “Best Practice” refers to treatment interventions that are internationally recognized as effective and transformational.

SEARHC has opened these services to non-Native community members, recognizing that drug dependency affects every race, every culture and every socioeconomic setting within the local community. By doing this, SEARHC will be able to continue expanding needed services while simultaneously lowering barriers for community members seeking care.

SEARHC will be kicking off this new program with an open house for the public to meet staff, view schedules and peruse the treatment topics that will be covered in the program.

The open house will take place between 5:30-7:00 on October 1st in the 1st floor conference room of the Community Health Services Building adjacent to the SEARHC Totem pole located on Seward Avenue in Sitka. The public is welcome and snacks and beverages will be served.  This will be an opportunity to ask questions and find resources for yourself or for someone you care about.

Treatment groups will be commencing immediately and applications are now currently being accepted. Please call 966-8611 to arrange for an initial consult and to meet with staff.
