(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - An Alaskan resident wanted on an outstanding federal warrant was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Alaska Fugitive Task Force late Friday night.

Max Raymond Jewett, 36, was being sought on a warrant issued on August 23, 2013, by the U.S. District Court. Jewett has been federally indicted for charges of Drug Trafficking Conspiracy Resulting in Death and Serious Bodily Injury and for Distribution of Heroin Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Death. The charges stem from an incident occurring on or about December 23, 2011, where defendants Sean Michael Warner and Max Raymond Jewett allegedly distributed controlled substances which resulted in the death of a 14 year old girl.

On September 20, 2013, the U.S. Marshals Task Force located and apprehended Jewett in Peters Creek, a small town north of Anchorage.  Jewett had been on the run and eluding law enforcement since the day of the indictment. When arrested, Jewett had significantly altered his appearance and attempted to persuade officers of a false identity. Jewett is currently being held in the Anchorage Correctional Complex pending federal court proceedings.

The Alaska Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Alaska State Troopers. The U.S. Marshals would like to thank the following additional agencies for their assistance throughout the fugitive investigation of Jewett: Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. The objective of the task force is to seek out and arrest violent offenders with outstanding federal and state warrants.
