(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - Officers of the Ketchikan Police Department responded to a complaint by a teacher at Houghtaling Elementary School on Monday.  It was reported to Officers that a seven year old student came to school Monday with what appeared to be tape residue on his face, arms and in his hair.  According to a Ketchikan Police Department news release, the student stated his mother had put tape around his mouth and taped his hands behind his back.  He also told his teacher he could not breathe and had passed out.

The child told Ketchikan Police Officers that on Sunday he got in trouble with his mother just after breakfast.  He said his mother put gray tape around his mouth and taped his hands behind his back.  He said he remained bound until evening time, missing lunch and dinner.

Officers also spoke with the five year old sibling who stated he saw his mother put tape on his brother after breakfast and did not take it off until bedtime.

Ketchikan Police Officers went to a North Yorktown address and contacted the boy’s mother, Elizabeth C. Johnson, 34 years of age of Ketchikan Alaska.   At the house Officers reportedly found two pieces of duct tape in the trash; one piece had hair stuck on it.

Johnson was arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the First Degree, a C Felony.  She was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center where she was held without bail.

Charges are merely accusations and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
