Ketchikan, Alaska - The US Coast Guard will be closing access to the LORAN base in Shoal Cove early next week in order to dismantle three towers.

The site has been declared an active construction zone, and for the public's protection, the Forest Service and Coast Guard are advising any forest users to avoid the entire LORAN site area.

The site will be closed from Sunday, September 26th to Wednesday, September 29th. The Coast Guard will be dismantling one additional tower in October. Public notices will precede this action.

Signs will be posted at the dock and roads accessing the base.
