Native Wellness Conference
by Cecelia Johnson

Saturday

The Ketchikan Indian Community Social Services sponsored a "Native Wellness Conference" held at the Ted Ferry Civic Center, September 8 and 9.  Every speaker on the agenda eloquently addressed the specific subject of wellness.  Thank you to whomever had the wisdom to get Harold Napoleon as a keynote speaker.  His message was how to obtain wealth, not material wealth, but spiritual wealth.  I read his book, "YUUYARAQ:  The Way of the Human Being," and for many years wanted to meet him in person.  By being a participant I had the privilege of being in the same room with this powerful speaker.

Social workers and social service providers quietly go about promoting wellness.  Thank you for your hard work in putting this conference together and Thank you for giving us the privilege of hearing Harold Napoleon.
