(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - A Coast Guard 25-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Ketchikan medevaced an ailing 78-year-old man Tuesday from the 50-foot sailing vessel A. Herodias near Ketchikan.

According to a news release, the Response Boat-Small crew rendezvoused with the A. Herodias in Naha Bay where the crew took the man aboard and transferred him to local emergency medical service personnel in Knudson Cove for evaluation and treatment.

Coast Guard Sector Juneau command center watchstanders received a report from the man’s wife over VHF-FM Channel 16 that he was vomiting, suffering from high fever and weakness and needed assistance. The RB-S crew, who were already underway, diverted to the scene to assist.

“Coast Guard crews perform regular underway training and patrols of Alaska’s waters,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Chad Montcastle, a Sector Juneau watchstander. “This ensures they’re always available to safely and efficiently transport the sick and injured to a higher level of care when necessary.”
