It's a wash...
By Chris Elliott

August 31, 2006

Kudos to M L Dahl for the great letter (especially the "it's a wash" comment). Over the years I've become philosophical about the tourists and, in fact, enjoy the craziness they bring each summer. I do wish they would recognize that Ketchikan was a thriving little metropolis before (this is where the dead horse comes in) the whackos decided to destroy our timber industry and the related jobs that paid a heck of a lot more than those in the visitor industry. Southeast Alaska is now a park. What do people in California and Connecticut know about the economic reality of living here? Walk a mile in my Xtra Tuffs, then tell me.
