White Cliff Project Yes, Funding Method No
By Samuel Bergeron

I want everyone to know that I support the Arts Council and their efforts to renovate the old White Cliff School.

The entire time I spent on the Borough Assembly I consistently voted for full funding for the Art Council when the community grants were considered. I'm a season ticket holder and only miss a show when I'm unable to go or I'm out of town.

When I speak against a sales tax increase, it's not about opposition to the project itself, mostly it's because we're asking a group of people, through tax on residential rent and food, some of whom can't afford food and rent now, to pay for it. It violates my ethics to the core. I support the Arts and their efforts to renovate White Cliff, but not through a tax that inadvertently targets the poor.
