"Everyone's an Asset Builder":
Community Leadership Workshop Announced

Ketchikan, Alaska - A workshop scheduled for August 31st will introduce participants to Search Institute's developmental assets and invite participants to become asset builders in their personal and professional lives. PATCHWorks Director Karen Eakes stated in an announcement, "It will be specifically directed at people who are genuinely interested in improving the lives of young people in our community."

According to Eakes, the training will help participants:

  • Understand the developmental assets framework and its power in young people's lives;
  • Affirm your own asset-building strengths;
  • Identify the asset-building activities that you and others are already engaged in;
  • Understand your role in creating healthy communities for youth through your unique areas of influence;
  • Commit to taking specific asset-building action.

Don MacIntyre, with Search Institute's Vision Training Associates will be the guest presenter. MacIntyre is from Penticton, B.C. where he is currently the principal of McNicoll Park Junior Secondary School. MacIntyre has done graduate work in both Business Administration and Education. As a trainer for Search Institute he serves as a public speaker and trainer for schools, organizations, and communities interested in building developmental assets for and with youth, starting a community-wide asset building initiative, or creating community change on behalf of youth. He has been a speaker, presenter and trainer at the 1999 Healthy Community, Healthy Youth Conference and is a certified trainer for Covey Institute. MacIntyre delivers workshops on the "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" and the related "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens".

This event is made possible by funding and efforts from Alaska ICE, the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District and PATCHWorks. It will take place at the Ted Ferry Civic Center on Wednesday, August 31st, 2005, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
