Alaska Shield/Northern Edge 2005 in Full Swing

August 16, 2005
Tuesday

Ketchikan, Alaska - Residents will see a boost in emergency response vehicles today and Thursday as Alaska Shield/Northern Edge goes in to full swing.

Ketchikan Charter School, located at 410 Schoenbar Road, is the site for a decontamination drill involving a mock-anthrax threat. Access will be somewhat restricted in this area.

On Thursday, the Alaska Marine Highway System's offices at 7559 North Tongass will be the site for a large-scale mock-terrorist drill involving firefighters and law enforcement officers. Access to AMHS offices will be highly restricted during this time. There may be small explosions, flashes of light, and smoke - these are only tests.

Actual police and fire emergencies may occur during this period. In the event of an actual emergency, vehicles will use their sirens.
