First City Republican Women's Club Endorses Stedman

Ketchikan, Alaska - The First City Republican Women's Club has unanimously voted to support State Senator Bert Stedman in his race for State Senate Seat in District A.

Senator Stedman was appointed by Governor Frank Murkowski on November 30, 2003, to fill the vacancy left by Senator Robin Taylor who took an administrative job with the state government.

Senator Stedman was born in Anchorage at Elmendorf Air Force Base. He graduated from Petersburg Elementary School and Sitka High School. He has a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Finance from the University of Oregon. He served as an Assemblyman for the City and Borough of Sitka, Deputy Mayor of Sitka and on the Planning Commission in Sitka as well.

As the Freshman Senator from Southern Southeast Alaska, Senator Stedman has served in the Senate as Chair of Community & Regional Affairs Committee and a member of five Finance Subcommittees. He is also a member of the Pacific Fisheries and Joint Salmon Industries Legislative Taskforces, Western States Legislative Forestry Taskforce and Southeast Caucus.

First City Republican Women of Ketchikan announced they are "pleased to support an Alaskan Senator who understands the challenges of living and working in the varied communities of Southern Southeast Alaska."

First City Republican Women is a member of the Alaska Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women. The NFRW was founded in 1938 and is of the largest women's political organizations in the country with a grassroots membership of 100,000 and 1,800 local units nationwide.
