Ketchikan, Alaska - The Ketchikan General Hospital (KGH) Home Health Department was surveyed last week for State of Alaska licensure as well as for Medicare certification. The purpose of the survey was to determine whether the Home Health Department is in compliance with the more than 800 specific state and federal regulations it must follow.

The surveyors found no deficiencies; the department received a 100% score.

The KGH Home Health Department employs one full-time and one part-time Registered Nurse as well as one Certified Nurse Assistant (C.N.A.), a nurse manager and an office assistant. Home Health can also bring in the services of KGH Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists, as well as the hospital's Social Worker, if needed.

In order to receive Home Health services, a patient must be referred by his or her physician, and there must be a need for skilled intermittent care in nursing or one of the other disciplines.

The KGH Home Health Department is currently serving about 15 patients in their homes.
