Respect & Common Courtesy
by Brandi Conway

This letter is about how some people lack the common courtesy or are just plain mean. I am not too sure of the circumstances but the other day one of my good friends was left feeling hurt and sad because someone had a bad day and felt the need to vent their frustration out on her. Then again maybe they are always like that and are just a mean spirited person.

This wonderful woman may have been born with a disability that made her mobility slower then the rest of us but it does not affect her mind. She is very smart, charming, cute, funny - heck I can on about all her positive traits because they surpass most of ours. What I am trying to say is please folks think. Just because someone is born with a disability doesn't mean they are stupid or lack feelings or a personality.

Here is an example of what I am talking about..The other day my friend was walking down the street with another friend when a women walking up from behind them says to them " Can't you f---ing move any faster?" Her friend said in her defense, "Can't you see she has a disability and to go beep yourself". Now it may have not been the best response but she was livid at the rudeness of the woman. However it did not stop there cause the woman made the last reply of "at least I am not friends with a retard." I ask folks ,am I wrong to be upset about people such as her? I wonder why it seems that more and more people lack compassion, manners, respect?

I would like to say if by chance the woman is reading this letter shame on you and I only hope that you can learn some compassion, manners and respect. Heck I don't really have to worry about that because her bad Karma will catch up to her. I would also like to say thank you to all the people who know to treat everyone with respect and know that hurtful words can cause more damage then if attacked physically.
