Ketchikan's Tobacco Tax

By Donald A. Johnson

July 08, 2015
Wednesday PM

Our Tax and Spend Borough Reps. are at it again. Now they want to put a $3 tax on all packages of tobacco products. And they spout the same inane reasons for the tax that we are all tired of hearing over and over again.

Who do they represent when they vote for a tax that is not only unreasonably high, but hurts only the lower and middle income working stiff who enjoys a smoke. It's going to cost a blue collar, working man an extra $3 or more a day to smoke. What nonsence.

These supposed representatives of the people only represent themselves. They tax an easy target, so they can waste and spend more of YOUR money on their pet projects. In times of fiscal responsibility they refuse to cut their budget to fit their income. Raise the mill rate, raise sales tax, raise every tax. You don't own property in the KGB, you lease it from the borough.

The clowns are running the circus and it's time to get rid of them. Wake up Ketchikan.

Sincerely,

Donald A. Johnson
